Prayers

Prayers

The South London Muslim Association (SLMA) welcomes worshippers every day throughout the year to use our prayer facilities. We hold all five daily prayers, along with special congregational prayers for Ramadan and Eid.

Our prayer halls open at 10am and close around 30 minutes after ‘Isha, the final prayer of the day. The main prayer hall also opens early for Fajr (morning prayer).

Congregational Prayers

We hold all prayers in congregation at their scheduled times, as listed in our daily prayer timetable. Each session lasts approximately 10–15 minutes.

For Fajr, the main hall opens half an hour before the congregation begins and closes shortly after prayer. Once the facilities open at 10am, they remain available for use until the end of the day.

On Fridays, we host the Jumu’ah (Friday) prayer, which includes a Khutbah (sermon) lasting about 30 minutes.

  • During British Summer Time, the sermon begins around 1:15pm.

  • During the rest of the year, it starts around 12:30pm.

Facilities

We offer dedicated prayer halls for men and women — men on the ground floor and women in the Maryam Centre, ensuring comfort, privacy, and ease of worship for everyone.
During Jumu’ahRamadan, and Eid, additional areas are opened to accommodate our large and vibrant congregation.
All our facilities are equipped with modern ablution areaswheelchair access, and baby-changing units for families.
For Friday sermons, worshippers benefit from audio-visual displays and British Sign Language support, allowing everyone to engage and participate fully in the prayer experience.

Adhan – The Call to Prayer

The Adhan (call to prayer) is delivered live for each prayer.
During early and late hours, it is played through internal speakers, live-streamed, and broadcast on digital radio.
For midday, afternoon, and evening prayers, the Adhan is also called from our minaret, a tradition cherished by our community.
